Chief Greg Butler

Chief Greg Butler - 2B1 has been a police officer for over 25 years. He started his career in 1986 with the Bountiful Police Department where he worked until hired by the West Jordan Police Department in 1988. He retired from the West Jordan Police department in October 2008 when he accepted the position as Chief of Police with the Montpelier, Idaho police department. He has worked and supervised in all areas of policing including: investigations bureau, patrol division, traffic unit, SWAT team, field training (FTO), gang unit, code enforcement, crime prevention, community policing, homeland security, training division, and was a mobile field force commander during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he had the honor of providing security for President George W. Bush during the opening ceremonies at Rice Eccles stadium.


Chief Butler is also an adjunct professor at Salt Lake Community College in the criminal justice department where he continues to teach internet courses. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia College and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Utah. Chief Butler is a graduate of West Point Military Academy Leadership Academy, University of Utah Executive law Enforcement Leadership program, and the FBI Command College.


Since coming to Idaho Chief Butler has obtained his Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and Management certificates from Idaho Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST). Chief Butler was recently voted in as the 2nd Vice President of the Idaho Chiefs of Police Association and will take over as president of the organization in 2012.
