Shooting Hitching Post Bar
Montpelier, Idaho--A 34-year-old male was arrested early this morning after firing a round from a rifle into the Hitching Post Bar located at 839 Washington Street.
Steven Michael Stewart was arrested after firing one round from a rifle into the bar after having been kicked out of the bar earlier in the evening. Stewart fired one round from the back parking lot just before 1 am this morning. The round penetrated into the bar and lodged in a wall. According to Chief Greg Butler the bar had approximately 15 customers still inside. “We're very fortunate nobody was hit by the round,” said Chief Butler.
According to Chief Butler the suspect fled the scene after the shooting. Officers located the suspect approximately 90 minutes later when he returned to his home where officers were keeping surveillance. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle. A rifle was recovered and the suspect was booked into the Caribou County jail.
