For Immediate Release
Between April 10, 2009 – April 19, 2009 the Montpelier Police Department will be conducting an aggressive driving mobilization campaign.
Background: In 2007, aggressive driving was a contributing factor in 54% of all crashes and 108 fatalities in Idaho. The economic cost of crashes involving aggressive driving was $1.4 billion dollars. This represents 49% of the total cost of all crashes in Idaho. Aggressive driving is the highest single contributing factor in both injury and fatal crashes.
The behaviors that define aggressive driving and the violations we will be enforcing are: failure to yield the right-of-way, stop sign violation, exceeding posted speed, basic rule/too fast for conditions, reckless operation, tailgating, and disregarding traffic sign or signal.
The goal of this project is to reduce motor vehicle crashes, injuries and deaths caused by adult aggressive driving behaviors, through increasing law enforcement presence, increasing citations and arrests, and through local media outreach conducted by the Montpelier Police Department.
